A little: WebP uses lossy compression. At the default quality the difference is not visible to the naked eye, and you can raise it in the options for maximum quality.
Your device’s memory sets the limit: on desktop, images up to about 100 megapixels; on mobile, up to 16.7. If an image is too large you are told before it starts.
