Convert AVIF to ICO

Turn your AVIF files into ICO in seconds. Everything happens in your browser: nothing is uploaded to any server.

Or paste them with Ctrl+V. They never leave your device.

Why convert AVIF to ICO?

Encoding is slow and many desktop apps still cannot open it. As an ICO it works as a website favicon or a Windows icon.

About the formats

AVIF, the most modern image compression

AVIF uses the AV1 video codec to compress images, with transparency and high dynamic range colour.

Strengths: It is usually the smallest at equal quality, often half the size of a JPG.

Limits: Encoding is slow and many desktop apps still cannot open it.

ICO, Windows icons and favicons

ICO is the container for Windows icons and website favicons, holding several sizes in one file.

Strengths: A single ICO carries the icon at 16, 32, 48 and 256 pixels so it looks sharp everywhere.

Limits: It is only meant for icons, not for large photos.

How to convert AVIF to ICO

  1. 1Drop your AVIF files in the box, paste them or pick them from your device.
  2. 2Check that the target is ICO and open the options if you want to adjust it.
  3. 3Press “Convert” and download each ICO, or all of them in a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Is my AVIF uploaded to a server to turn it into ICO?

No. The AVIF to ICO conversion runs entirely in your browser, with code downloaded from this site and executed on your device. You can check it in the Network tab of the developer tools or by going offline after the page loads.

Is there a size limit?

Your device’s memory sets the limit: on desktop, images up to about 100 megapixels; on mobile, up to 16.7. If an image is too large you are told before it starts.

Can I convert several AVIF files at once?

Yes. Drop as many AVIF files as you like: several are converted at the same time, depending on your processor cores, and when they finish you can download each ICO or all of them in a ZIP.
